We filtered all 29 drivers for what matters most to mid handicappers: the balanceof forgiveness and distance rather than either extreme. The goal isn't max MOI — it's real help on mishits without leaving yardage on the table. We used our weighted scoring system (35% expert, 25% data-driven, 30% forum, 10% retail) plus editorial judgment about which drivers actually fit the 9–18 handicap profile. Max-forgiveness heads like the G440 K and Qi10 MAX are better covered in our high handicap drivers guide.

Driver of the Year contender. Forgiveness 9.7 nearly matches the most extreme heads on the market, but the G440 MAX doesn't sacrifice feel (8.5), distance (8.4), or adjustability (8.5) to get there. The movable back weight lets you tune draw/fade bias without a fitting appointment — rare in a max-forgiveness driver.
Bottom line: The most balanced max-forgiveness head on the market. If you want everything at once, this is the one.

A Gold Medal 2024 driver now at $400. Great value for mid handicappers upgrading from a Stealth 2 or older.
For mid handicappers who prefer workability over max forgiveness. 10 expert reviewers rate it 4.3–5.0 out of 5.
The standard (not Triple Diamond) Elyte driver. Easy launch and strong all-round performance at mid-price.
Mid handicappers (9–18) need the balance that extreme-MOI max-forgiveness heads give up — good forgiveness plus real distance plus at least some workability. The TaylorMade Qi4D, Callaway Quantum Max, Titleist GT2, and PING G440 MAXall deliver this balance. Avoid max-forgiveness heads like the G440 K and Qi10 MAX unless you're genuinely struggling with centered contact.
Get fit. All three sit at the top of the 2026 driver class and any could be your best driver. On paper: Qi4D (9.5) is MyGolfSpy's Best Driver of 2026 and the most balanced. Quantum Max (9.1) is the ball speed champion. GT2 (8.8) was the longest driver in MyGolfSpy's 2025 test and has the best sound/feel of any driver we've reviewed. Pick the one that feels best at address and in your fitting.
For most mid handicappers, yes. The G440 MAX delivers nearly identical forgiveness (9.7 vs 9.8) but with meaningfully better feel, better adjustability, more distance, and a cleaner address profile. The Qi10 MAX is the better value pick at $399 — see our G440 MAX vs Qi10 MAX head-to-head for the full breakdown.
Yes. The Callaway Ai Smoke Max (~$350) is a Gold Medal driver at a discount. The Cobra Darkspeed Xis ~$299 on clearance and was the most accurate driver in MyGolfSpy's high-swing-speed test. Any of those saves you $200+ vs current flagships without giving up much on mid-handicap performance.
